We Deliver:

Leadership on Sustainability

We have one of the best stories to tell of all packaging materials (renewable resource, use of biomass, high recycled content, recyclability, compostability) and we tell it through the industry's environmental council, PPEC.

Advocacy

At all three levels of government (federal, provincial and municipal) on issues ranging from Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), stewardship programs and fee structures, compostability, health issues. And within industry forums (such as Walmart Canada's Sustainable Value Network (SVN) and its various commitees, and through member company affiliations with the Sustainable Packaging Coalition and the Global Packaging Project.

Industry Stats

The association offers a wide range of statistics to its members: monthly and quarterly data on production, shipments, inventory levels, values and markets, for both containerboard and corrugated converted products; details of labour agreements across the country with regular updates; and is currently developing a national benchmark reporting process for work-related injuries and illnesses.

Networking Opportunities

Members receive access to the Board of Directors and association committees, and to association events at a significant discount.

Working Together

On environmental issues, the association works through PPEC with both Canadian and US-based paper packaging interests such as the American Forest & Paper Association (AF & PA), Fibre Box Association (FBA), Association of Independent Corrugated Converters (AICC) and the Paperboard Packaging Council (PPC). Closer ties are also being established with these and other associations on non-environmental issues impacting the industry. For example, a Government Relations Committee is developing a priorities agenda for lobbying governments in Canada on economic cost-competitiveness issues.

Life cycle analysis of average corrugated box released
The Corrugated Packaging Alliance (CPA) has released a summary of a first-ever cradle-to-cradle life cycle analysis (LCA) of the average US corrugated box. The LCA follows ISO 14040 guidelines including critical review by a panel of experts. The initial public release of the data is intended to populate the US Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) database, the Environmental Protection Agency and the GreenBlue COMPASS tool. The 20-page Summary Report is a downloadable PDF document including graphs and diagrams.
