Cascades Announces the Closure of its Norampac –
Trenton Mill
April 12, 2012 – Kingsey Falls, Quebec – Cascades Inc. (TSX: CAS), a leader in recovery and in the manufacturing of green packaging and tissue paper products, announces today the closure of its Norampac containerboard mill located in Trenton, Ontario. Following the rejection of the final offer made to the employees regarding the new collective agreement, the closure of the mill will be effective no later than June 1, 2012.

RockTenn Announces Permanent Closure of Matane, Quebec Containerboard Mill
NORCROSS, Ga.—(Business Wire)—February 29, 2012-- RockTenn (NYSE:RKT)
announced today the permanent closure of its Matane, Quebec containerboard mill. The
Matane mill, which RockTenn acquired in May 2011 as part of the Smurfit-Stone
acquisition, had 176,000 tons per year of recycled corrugated medium production
capacity. RockTenn ceased production at the mill in late January 2012. RockTenn took
this action to balance its overall containerboard mill system capacity to match system
demand, in light of major steps RockTenn is taking to realign system capacity and lower
average system costs.

A study of residential recycling in four Canadian provinces (representing 86% of the country’s population) indicates that about 75% of corrugated boxes are sent for recycling by residents. In Ontario, the OCC sent for recycling has reached an amazing 92%.

PPEC reports that almost 70% of paper packaging is sent for recycling in Ontario
(21 September, 2009) Almost 70% of the paper packaging entering Ontario households was sent for recycling in 2008, according to statistics just released by Blue Box industry funding organization, Stewardship Ontario. The numbers are released every year and are based on a combination of waste audits of what householders put out for recycling or garbage, and reports by companies on what materials they place into the residential marketplace.
